| In
1940 Farm Security Administration photographer Russell Lee visited Pie
Town, New Mexico. Lee landed in Pie Town to explore this little patch
in the desert that had become home to a population of Dust Bowl
refugees seeking a new start. Among these homesteaders, Lee made images
that spoke to their vibrance and their values, their struggle and their
success. When I began visiting Pie Town in 1996 it was my hope to check in again on the residents of this small town. I hoped to learn both something of their experiences living in Pie Town, and the special qualities of this arid spot in New Mexico that was still calling people home. |
